The Fifth China International Vocal Competition (Ningbo) will be held in Ningbo, China from the 9th of October to the 20th of October 2011. The competitor winning the first prize can have 20,000 USD as award, which is higher than that of all previous sessions.

Initiated in 2000, the China International vocal Competition is a major Chinese international music competition event under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture and is held every three years and sponsored by Ningbo Municipal People’s Government, Zhejiang Province.

The organizing committee of the 5th CIVC held a news press in Beijing on April 7th and announced that the competition will be divided into three phases, namely the preliminary, the semi-final and the final. There will be four prizes for the Male Group, four prizes for the Female Group and two prizes for the Best Performance of Chinese Art Songs (one of which will be awarded to a Non-Chinese Foreign contestant).

The male and female first prize winners can receive a bonus of 20,000 USD respectively in addition to the prize-winners’ certificates and cups, which is so far the highest bonus for the top CIVC winners. Besides, the organizing committee will provide travel allowances ranged from 250 USD to 450 USD to overseas competitors.

As for the competition repertoire, the 5th CIVC will carry on the tradition of attaching importance to both internationality and nationality. Ten well-known Chinese art songs will still be part of the competition, including That is Me, Ode to the land of China, The Same Song, etc. 

Based on the principal of authority and impartiality, the jury panel is composed by 15 artists with renowned achievements in teaching and performance of vocal music. The juries are from China, Russia, Ukraine, Austria, Greece, Germany, Italy, France and South Africa. The Chairperson of the jury panel is Guo Shuzhen, professor of Vocal and Opera Department, Central Conservatory of Music.

It is said that some unique elements of Ningbo will be added to this session of the CIVC. For example, famous composer and conductor He Zhanhao, especially know for “The Butterfly Lovers” and local famous conductor Yu Feng will join the competition as juries. 

The China International Vocal Competition (Ningbo) (CIVC) is one of the major China International Music Competition events under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture of the PRC. The CIVC is held every three years and sponsored by Ningbo Municipal People’s Government, Zhejiang Province. The Fifth China International Vocal Competition (Ningbo) will be held in Ningbo, China from the 9th of October to the 20th of October 2011. The Organizing Committee is responsible for the management of all competition procedures. The jury panel of the Fifth China International Vocal Competition (Ningbo) will be composed of world-famous musicians. Decisions made in all rounds by the jury panel are final and unchangeable.
